Dear Parents and Performers,
Please allow me introduce myself: my name is Rob Hunter. My first love is God, my 2nd is my family and country and 3rd is my love for music and the stage! I am a singer and guitarist.Five years ago I moved to Wylie Texas with the intent of finishing my music and singing career in the Dallas area, however, my mission changed after moving to Wylie.
Let me tell you about Searching for a Star...
Searching for a Star is designed to build character,
self confidence and self assuredness in our youth and young adults. This is my 4th annual SFAS course and Competition, It truly is changing lives... I am so pleased! There is a wonderful bonding taking place between performers, their parents, grandparents, friends, relatives, teachers, and the list goes on!
2008 SFAS FINALS
Searching for a Star is not a money making venture for me, everything is done for the benefit of the kids and their families. The program is gaining in popularity, last year we had performers from 12 cities to come; from Sherman to Waco and cities in between! What I see happening is nothing short of amazing. At the finals we have had 600 -700 people come out to cheer on the stars. At the finals mayors from the cities represented by our stars come out and sit with the families and cheer right along with the parents. During the award ceremony, those mayors whose cities are represented at the finals are called to the stage to award the trophies to the star from their city.
My Story...
My last substantial musical event was in 2005 when I performed with a group for our troops in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Having occupations serving the veteran for most of my life, the Cuba trip was one of the most gratifying experiences of my life. That trip primed me mentally to go out and take Dallas by storm; but like I said my mission change...it was the children. they got to me! When I first moved here, I opened a place called "Hunter's Place", occasionally I played and sang for the children there.

I saw such a hunger for music in them that instead of continuing to build my own career, I wanted to offer them the gift that had been given me from my parents...the love for music! That is when I opened a music school in Wylie, and have been consumed by that ever since.
I moved to Wylie from a suburb of Chicago...I don't need to tell you the culture shock that I experienced when I moved here; I was particularly struck by one of the signs near my new home which said...
MALE DONKEYS FOR SALE...$30.00 EACH!
That was 5 years ago, so since that time I've gotten use to living here and the existence of other animals in the world besides dogs and cats...
I don't have to tell you, our children have a very scary world to grow up in, and one day running the world will rest on their shoulders. When that time arrives, I hope my contributions, of using music and the stage to build character and self esteem, becomes a part of the strength that they use to manage their world. It is my mission, to make sure that the stage becomes a friend to my stars, not just the singing stage, but the world stage.
Recently I was contacted by a filming company that has experessed interest in filming portions of this year's Searching for a Star Course and Competition.
The Director of the fiming company is Maria Arita-Howard, former anchor woman of CBS Channel 11 news. That exposure will certainly raise the awareness of SFAS and the character and self esteem of the performers that become a part of this year's competition, it will be wonderful for the parents and kids and also the cities represented.
Not Just a Competition
SFAS is not just a competition, it is a stage course, with periodic workshops built in to critique and guide the kids. SFAS like other organized programs help build a better and stronger community. I want see our children turn from being followers into leaders. There is much work ahead for me, but, I would not pass this opportunity to serve the children and their families for anything. We have had great success the past three years, we attribute our growth to very hard work and our faith in God's hand to help...Yes my mission changed, but guess what...Our Children are worth it!
Explore the opportunity!
Sincerely,
Robert C. Hunter
